April-H-GD: Project “Beethoven”. Session 5 Week 3 Production Weekly Work Log

Session Number:5
Week Number:3
Week Goal: (a clearspecific,
MEASURABLE,
realistic goal
related to a BEST PRACTICE
and to your main PRODUCTION ROLE)
As Producer I am going to fully complete the GDD with required art assets, core gameplay mechanics, and sound elements listed and explained.

As Lead Programmer I will develop MVP into a full gameplay experience based on feedback from players and standard industry expectations for MVP (Win/Lose state, Menu screens, Core gameplay established, next week work on implementing sound).

Best Practices: Problem solving,
by using player feedback to develop on the game’s issues.
and Communication, by developing a GDD to communicate asset development needs to team members.

Weekly Work Summary

Tasks Completed This Week:

MondayTask: Setting up blogpost and weekly goal, updating required asset list, communicating field trip based absence with team, attending fieldtrip.
TuesdayTask: Update status of development with team, work on GDD, develop core mechanics, troubleshoot issues with enemy movement.
WednesdayTask: Updating movement controls.
ThursdayTask: Fixed racism bug, gave feedback for sound effects and art.
FridayTask: received feedback for game and gave feedback for other games (main feedback: people keep asking about the off center character [ask some guy about the second centre point for the character?], introduce a win/lose state to the game, tutorial for controls, make the eye do something).

Best Practice(s) Demonstrated:

I debugged the movement and detection mechanics for the enemies a lot during the week demonstrating a debugging mindset.

I demonstrated cross disciplinary teamwork via providing feedback to my team members work as the project lead and producer.

I developed MPV to use as a prototype for developping the game further (additionally using feedback given during playtests to further develop the game).

I demonstrated version control by labeling the different versions of the game with the marker of V# (eg: V1, V2, V3, ect) to keep track of the various levels of development,

I demonstrated accessibility access by remapping the controls to WASD instead of arrow keys to make movement more intuitive,

I demonstrated professional readiness by updating my itch.io portfolio with new versions of the game and by managing the scope of the project when considering new ideas in discussion to expand the game.

Personal Reflection on the Week

Did you achieve your weekly goal?

Once again I got too ambitious with my goal so I focused on the secondary part of developing MVP using feedback from last week such as adding WASD controls, expanding on the map, and making enemies destroyable.

What was the biggest issue or problem you faced this week?

I encountered multiple movement bugs involving enemies not moving and moving in the wrong direction along with enemies clumping up in groups.

How did you overcome this issue or problem?

I fixed the movement bug (one example of which we referred to as “the racism bug” because it occurred when we changed the character’s sprite to an African person)

Remember, reflecting on your work sharpens problem-solving skills and deepens understanding by encouraging thoughtful review, which boosts retention and streamlines your workflow for a stronger, more focused week ahead.

Evidence of Weekly Goal

Whether you achieved your weekly goal or not, place evidence here of what was accomplished FOR YOUR ROLE. Embed evidence, or link to a publicly shared file in your Google Drive. This evidence can be a screenshot, an audio file, a video clip, a picture of paperwork, etc.

Project asset list document: Linkie

Incase the link doesn’t work here’s a screenshot to it below:

Most Proud of…

Continuing my practicing of building an asset list to communicate design needs, honestly I might appropriate this asset list into the GDD for simplicity sake, I developed mvp pretty quickly and developed it a lot based off of peer feedback, finally I fixed a lot of bugs this week which has just now as of writing inspired me to practice better programming documentation to avoid bugs or smth i’ll figure it out later lol, have a good weekend!

April-H-RB: Session 5 Week 3 Production Weekly Work Log – Foundations.

Session Number:5
Week Number:3
Week Goal: (a clear, specific,
MEASURABLE,
realistic goal
related to a BEST PRACTICE
and to your main PRODUCTION ROLE)
Establish Session Documentation materials (practice log, song writing resource, blogpost, ect) as Solo Producer and establish Project Genre via genre research as a Guitarist.Best practices: Session Documentation and Genre Awareness.

Weekly Work Summary

Tasks Completed This Week:

MondayTask: Developing blogpost and weekly goal.
TuesdayTask: Tunning guitar, experimenting with notes/chord structures, research into genre, artistic direction.
WednesdayTask: Improvise and recording.
ThursdayTask: reviewing documentation, conducting research, improvise and recording.
FridayTask: Finishing up blog post.

Best Practice(s) Demonstrated:

Name the best practice(s) from the BEST PRACTICES list. Describe specifically how you demonstrated each one.

I practiced genre awareness by studying songs in my genre to take inspiration from, and recorded practice inspired by song analysis.

I practiced Daw Proficiency by recording improvisation/experimentation in my DAW of choice (GarageBand).

I practiced studio etiquette by properly resetting stations after finishing work and treating work space environmental elements properly (I didn’t break anything or whatever basically).

Personal Reflection on the Week

Did you achieve your weekly goal?

Kinda but not really, I got a document I asked Le Duc to make a physical copy for me so I could look it over but i’m still debating how useful it is, and i’ve done some research on my genre but still figuring out how stuff works musically (why do these notes, in this order, using those chords, make this genre a genre and convey a certain effect or feeling?).

What was the biggest issue or problem you faced this week?

I didn’t have any major issues this week. I was just a bit disorganized and still trying to figure out what I’m doing and what direction I’m trying to take with my project.

How did you overcome this issue or problem?

I’m still trying to figure out how the whole songwriting process, for the most part i’ve been going back to my basic approach of looking at musicians working in a style I like and using that as inspiration to put together some musical riffs, but I think I still need to take some time to set up a clearer plan on what i’m doing.

Basically: not really, but i’m planning on getting myself organized more on the weekend and next week, my plan is that on the weekend for game design i’m gonna finish my game’s GDD and for Rockband (short for School of Rock) i’m gonna work on a plan for my song structure, what tutorials I wanna use for support/inspiration, and my work process, among other things.

Evidence of Weekly Goal

Screenshot-2026-03-27-at-3.07.36-PM-1024x576.png

This is my DAW track in GarageBand, showing how I’ve been recording my improvisation to help generate ideas for a hook, chorus, and other song sections.

Most Proud of:

Finding a tutorial for a song I was taking inspiration from that I can use as a support resource, and recording some (I’m gonna be honest, I have no idea what to call what I’m doing) riffs to generate ideas for song arrangement.

REACTIONS TO THE FINAL VERSION

Place at least one comment from the PEER review and cite only the student’s first name.

I did not recieve peer feedback but other members of the class got feedback regarding cleaning up instrumentals so they’re harmonius, other things they mentioned in a kinda random list:
Equalize the sound levels, use a metronome, use reverb for more effect, make sure all elements of composition are legible, variation is good.

Place at least one comment from the ADVISOR review and cite the advisor’s name.

The Advisor (I forgor his name) mentioned things such as: Avoid repeating the same elements of a song too many times, use a metronome so you’re playing on beat (You can also record it perfectly once and then duplicate the section multiple times to make it easier), Noise floor: avoid hissyness by keeping recording above -12 (something? ask Le Duc more on this if relevant), Keep soundwaves within the visual DAW to avoid noise issues, when implementing sound effects: Lower Pitch means less effects and Higher Pitch = More Effects, Vocals are the core of telling the story of a song,
“Never be so broke you can’t pay attention.”

SELF-REFLECTION

Pick one of these types of reflection: action points, evaluative, intentional, or retrospective, state which one you picked, and write your reflection here…

  • Action Points:
  • USE A FREAKING METRONOME OR YOU GONNA GET BEATEN TO DEATH WITH HAMMERS
  • Remember that Lower Pitch means less effects and Higher Pitch = More Effects (since i’ll be using more sound effects/samples this session, this idea might be important).
  • make sure all parts of composition are legible and harmonious (you can hear all elements/elements don’t intervene eachother and sound well together).

GRAMMAR AND SPELLING

I’m gonna be real with you homie I didn’t use a grammar checker cuz I ran out of time, I just used the integrated grammar checker in Edublogs.

EDITOR

wasn’t able to find an editor in time, might get someone to edit and update grammar later but I ran out of time for today sowwy 🙁

REACTIONS TO THE FINAL VERSION

Student mentioned they liked the art style, would’ve appreciated more enemy variety, and wanted slower movement so to make the game easier.

Takeaways: Continue with the solid art direction as a strength for games, include more variety in gameplay once MVP is finished, Consider levels of difficulty for player accessibility and engagement.

Nelly encouraged expanding on the gameplay elements toward the arcade shooter element (power-ups/pick-ups, abilities, alternate attacks/patterns, ect), Complimented the solid core mechanics and strong art direction, suggested making UI elements more clear to gameplay.

Takeaways: Continue focus on solid core mechanics and art direction. Expand of focus toward a core gameplay genre/concept. Improve on clear UI elements to assist player accessibility.

SELF-REFLECTION

Pick one of these types of reflection: action points, evaluative, intentional, or retrospective, state which one you picked, and write your reflection here”

  • Action Points:
  • Focus on a single genre and not mixing too many elements.
